In 2012 Vinny Tafuro published “Corporate Empathy”, capitalizing on the conversations, debates, and economic shifts being catalyzed by the growing rights, freedoms, and responsibilities of corporations as a result of corporate personhood. Vinny is a Tampa Bay based entrepreneur and economist. His most recent book, “Unlocking the Labor Cage,” proposes a broad update to global economic theory to accommodate the information age.

His Corporate Empathy brand uses sardonic and pointed commentary as a challenge to dated economic theories, holding companies to human standards. Vinny is also the founding president of the Gasparilla Interactive Festival, Tampa Bay’s showcase of cutting-edge technologies and digital creativity and the Conscious Capitalism Florida Chapter, whose purpose is to seek out and connect the role models of Florida’s conscious business community.

CEO, Social Forces

Kate Whatley is the co-founder and CEO of Social Forces, a Social Shopper Marketing agency serving a roster of national clients from their central office in Tampa, Florida. By utilizing the power of social media, SoFo helps retailers and consumer brands engage with their shoppers before, during and after visiting their brick-and-mortar store. Kate works with some of the top brands in retail including Monster Energy, M&M’S®/Mars Chocolate, and Pepsi to develop effective strategies for reaching consumers on the social path to purchase. Since 2009, the SoFo team has been built around a mission to create world class experiences for consumers on social media. Kate also serves on the Board of Advisors for the University of South Florida’s Zimmerman Advertising Program and previously served as President of Ad 2 Tampa Bay and as President’s Council Chair for the American Advertising Federation’s Fourth District of 22 chapters across Florida and the Caribbean.

President, Sign-Age Tampa Bay

Michael is a co-founder of Sign-Age which has provided clients with vinyl and wide format graphics, interior architectural signs, and electrical custom signs since 1990. His career includes tenure with Fortune 100/500 public corporations and small, family owned businesses. He held senior management roles (responsibility for $16M annual budgets) as well as active company ownership.

Service is a character trait that placed him in leadership roles on numerous association boards, area chambers of commerce and church committees. He currently is active on the boards of three organizations-International Sign Association (ISA), American Advertising Association-Tampa Bay (AAF-TB) and Gasparilla Interactive Conference (GI).

Financial management and organization governance are the two strengths Michael brings to Gasparilla Interactive during the critical, formative years.

Born and raised on a “hog” farm outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mike has 12 brothers and sisters. He is a University of Wisconsin graduate where he majored in accounting.


Commissioner Victor D. Crist, Advisory Committee Chairext

Commissioner Victor Crist was elected to the Hillsborough County Commission in 2010 to represent District 2 which includes the communities of northern Hillsborough County. Prior to serving on the County Commission, he represented parts of Hillsborough County and Pasco County in the Florida House of Representatives from 1992 until 2000. He was then elected to the Florida Senate in 2000, where he served until 2010.

Commissioner Crist and his wife Angela enjoy traveling, outdoor activities, the arts, sports, time with their three year old daughter Sophia and their chocolate Labrador, Coco.
